MotionChip

MotionChip™ is an advanced Technosoft concept realized as a high-performance ready-to-run motion controller based on dedicated DSPs. With up to 6 independent PWM signals, this chip can control either a 3-phase power inverter for brushless motors, or an H bridge for DC motors. Operation modes include torque, speed and position control. Brushless motors can be controlled either in Hall sensors-based DC mode, or in vector control-based sinusoidal AC mode.

MotionChip™ (rated by EDN Magazine among 1999's Top 10 Microprocessors) is the main DSP controller embedded on all Technosoft intelligent drives.

Features

• Controls brushless or DC motors.
• No DSP programming is required.
• Standalone or master/slave, single- or multiple-axis configuration.
• Implements open loop, torque, speed, position or external parameter control structures.
• Interfaces with incremental encoders, digital Hall sensors, tacho-generators, and with linear Halls, sin-cos encoders, SSI and BiSS encoders and resolvers.
• Uses various communication channels: RS-232, RS-485, or CAN.
• Executes advanced motion commands & complex motion sequences.

Besides these standard functions, specific functionalities can be embedded, on request, on customized versions of the MotionChip™.

TheTechnosoft Motion Language (TML) is a high-level set of instructions that can be used to configure and parameterize MotionChip-based drives, and to execute advanced motion operations in stand-alone and on-line modes.

The high-level EasyMotion Studio platform enhances the use of MotionChip™ by simplifying the setup and motion programming, as well as the development and graphical evaluation of your motion sequences.

IMCM – the intelligent motion control module

In order to speed up your development time with products based on MotionChip II, evaluation packages are currently available, which will help you to test MotionChip in your application. These packages are using IMCM – a plug-in intelligent motor control module built around MotionChip. The starter kits include the IMCM plug-in module and the EasyMotion Studio programming software. The IMCM module offers access to all significant signals of the MotionChip and, thanks to its compact size, can easily be integrated in your amplifier's design. EasyMotion Studio will assist you with the quick adaptation of the MotionChip software to your host and application.

If you directly want to test the MotionChip with your motor, Technosoft offers several compatible power amplifier packages:

• The IMCM/50 package includes IMCM, an adapter, and the PM50 3-phase inverter
  (35 VDC, 1.7 A)
• The IMCM/750AC package includes IMCM, an adapter, and the PM750 3-phase inverter
  (230 VAC, 5 A continuous, 10 A peak current)
