Top

11. What type of feedback can be used?

Feedback devices that can be used with the PMCM4805 are incremental encoders and digital Hall sensors (mounted at 120 electrical degrees one to another).
The PMCM4805 can also be used with motors having a tachometer (analogue) speed sensor, as well as an analogue position measurement sensor (potentiometer-like).

Top

12. What is the maximum input frequency of the encoder?

The PMCM4805 accept incremental encoder pulses of up to 5 MHz. Note that internal quadrature encoder circuit (QEP) multiplies by 4 the number of pulses, thus increasing by 2 bits the equivalent encoder measurement resolution.

Top

13. What kinds of I/Os are available?

Up to 5 TTL lines can be used, as digital inputs, or digital outputs, with dedicated (as limits switches, drive enable, homing, index, pulse& direction) or general-purpose, functionality. All models have also 2 analogue inputs, in the range of [0…+3.3] V.
As a special remark, if the encoder sensor or Hall sensors are not used, the associated input signals can be used as general-purpose digital inputs, too.

Top

14. Are opto-isolated inputs / outputs available?

No opto-isolation is available on the I/Os of the PMCM4805 module. In cases justified by quantities, special executions of the module, including opto-isolation, can be produced.

Top

15. Are there any schematics available for the I/Os?

The PMCM4805 User Manual contains complete connection scheme for the I/O interfaces, together with the electrical specifications (logic, voltage and current limit), thus providing all the required information needed to connect external equipment to the module.

Top

16. Is it possible to implement PLC functionality on the module?

The PMCM4805 module is not intended to be an intelligent servo drive, and it does not implement advanced PLC-specific functionality. On the other hand, the module has several I/Os, which can be handled via the implemented program.
Consult Technosoft product range of intelligent drives, offering high-level programmability features, and implementing also PLC functionality. A product in the same power range as the PMCM4805, but with PLC features, is the ISCM4805 intelligent drive.

Top

17. Is the board programmable? How can I program the board?

The PMCM4805 is configurable and programmed by Technosoft, based on user specifications. Available control algorithms, for sensor or sensorless control, can be customized for maximum performance in the specific application case.
The user can eventually parameterize the board and select its operating mode, using the serial communication channel.

Top

18. What type of communication is available?

The module can communicate on a serial interface, of RS-232 type. A communication speed of up to 115 kilo-bauds is possible on the RS-232 channel.

Top

19. Is stand-alone operation possible?

It is possible to drive the PMCM4805 module in stand-alone operating mode, with fixed parameters and motor control mode. External reference signals can be imposed via an analog channel or via the serial communication line. Eventually, local I/O lines can be used to select some operating mode and motion parameter set.
In stand-alone mode, at power-on, the module will immediately start the execution of the local application.

Top

20. Can I drive the PMCM4805 with an analog signal?

The PMCM4805 module has 2 differential analog inputs, in the range of [0…+3.3] V. Depending on the structure of your application, you can use them as reference input, feedback signal (as from a tachogenerator, or position potentiometer), or load torque limit or feedforward signal.

Top

21. Does the PMCM4805 have a pulse and direction input? What is the maximum input frequency?

One possible operating mode of the PMCM4805 is the Pulse and Direction. In this case, the motion reference (position or speed, as configured by the user) is imposed via pulses applied on the Pulse input pin of the module. The pulses are used to increase or decrease the reference value, in correlation with the status of the Direction pin (0 or 1).
The maximum frequency of the Pulse signal is 5 MHz.
